About Chapter Leadership.

You've Got Questions? We've Got Answers.

Q: How can I get chapter leader support from ASTD-National?
A: ASTD has a Chapter Services Department dedicated to serving chapter leaders. The members of this team are professional staff and work out of the headquarters office in Alexandria, Virginia, to provide coaching and support for chapter leaders. They comprise the "Mission Control" team in terms of coordination and strategic oversight.

These staff are assisted by a nationwide team of ASTD volunteers, known as the National Advisors for Chapters (NAC). These members (who have all been selectively appointed from the ranks of high-performing chapter presidents) are available for coaching and presentations as well as leading new chapter initiatives.

Another group of volunteers is the Leadership Development Team, or LDT, which creates and delivers professional development opportunities to chapter leaders via the ASTD Leadership Institute (ALI).

A third group of volunteers are known as the SOS (Sharing Our Success) committee. They facilitate the gathering and dissemination of best practices from chapters across the USA.

Q: What is CORE and how do I make sure our chapter is in compliance?
A: ASTD Chapter Operating Requirements (CORE) are a set of performance guidelines for all of the Society's chapters. Designed to help chapters deliver a consistent set of benefits to members, CORE consists of seventeen requirements covering key programs, services, and activities for effective chapter operations.

The Chapter Operating Requirements were developed in response to feedback from chapter leaders and members, who indicated that many chapter volunteers wanted a clear set of standards uopn which to base their chapter's focus.

Q: I've heard something about CHIP. What is that?
A: The Chapter Incentive Program (CHIP) is a revenue sharing program launched at the end of 2002 that offers chapters an opportunity to earn additional revenue. With the CHIP program, chapters share the revenue from new business they generate for ASTD programs and services. Revenue share opportunities from CHIP include national memberships, conference registrations, books published by ASTD, webinars, HPI courses, and ROI workshops.
Q: How can I learn from other chapters?
A: Networking and learning opportunities take place on a local, regional and national level. Two great places to start with national resources are, first, right here -- the ALI site. choose Browse or Search from the left to find resources, including best practices from other chapters.

Another great starting point is the Chapter Leader Community, hosted by ASTD-National. There, you'll find tools and samples from other chapters, and other great time-savers.
